Established in 1973 by current owners, Werner and Helen Quast, Greenvale Park Stud today
is unquestionably ranked as one of Queensland's finest Thoroughbred Studs. The Stud covers
some 500 acres in the heart of the Darling Downs. The Darling Downs is accepted by all
breeding experts as being unrivalled in Queensland for its reputation as a Thoroughbred
Nursery. An annual rainfall of around 750mm (30 inches) as well as crystal clear
underground water - for both watering stock and irrigation - ensures the well being of the
thoroughbred population. Approximately 300 acres is regularly cultivated for food
supplement purposes. Greenvale Park Stud commenced operations with their foundation Sire,
Halicas (Habitat ex Lania x Ribot), and he produced numerous winners - the best known
being Stakes Winners, Crawford and Halison. The magnificently bred Halicas has left a
wonderful legacy in the shape of his band of broadmares who produce prolific numbers of
winners throughout the State. Pride of Kellina (Pago Pago ex Babaki X Right Honourable II)
holds a special place in the success of Greenvale Park Stud. A son of a Golden Slipper
winner, he was foaled in 1980 and commenced stud duties in 1985. He sadly was lost
prematurely to the breeding ranks of Queensland in 1996. A Group winner himself, Pride of
Kellina produced the Group Winner and Multiple Group placed Bucks Pride, as well as many
other Black Type winners, and always had a winners-to-runners ratio of over 60%. He
produced winners of almost A$5.5 million. It is already apparent that daughters of Pride
of Kellina will be both sought after and have the capacity to be top producers. Greenvale
Park Stud stands two sires and both represent the world acclaimed Northern Dancer Sire
Line. Forever Regal and Flying Tycoon give breeders the opportunity to tap into the
Northern Dancer bloodlines of two Black Type racetrack performers - at very attractive
service fees. A typical breeding season would see broodmare numbers of between 100 and 150
at the Stud. Annual agistment of broodmares/foals is available to clients. Numerous Black
Type performers have been bred/reared at the Stud. Bucks Pride, Sheer Grey, Crawford,
Halison, Hi Sport, Maryvale Boy, Nazara Grey, Shamrock Days, Cutler, Halart, Spark of
Life, Miss Haughty, Regal Rebel, Over the Rising, Private Label, Regent Spirit, Prince
Lonely and Land Estate are but a few whose racetrack performances are well documented.
Additionally, progeny from Greenvale Park Stud have won races in every capital city in
Australia as well as New Zealand, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. A modern barn
to accomodate up to 30 yearlings has been erected for the specific purpose of preparing
the Stud's draft of yearlings which are sold annually through Queensland, as astute buyers
realise the quality rearing which has gone into these young athletes of the future.
Stabling Facility The highly respected Oakey Veterinary Clinic attend to the Stud's
veterinary requirements. Greenvale Park Stud is situated 25 kilometres from the centre of
Toowoomba, on the main road to Warwick, and is located by turning at the Wheatsheaf Hotel
at East Greenmount. WHETHER BUYING A YEARLING AT THE SALES - OR MATING A BROODMARE -
